1. Church Background Checks:
Your church should perform background checks of all of its volunteers and employees.
One of the many reasons you should perform background checks is to know if there are any registered sex offenders applying to work or volunteer at your church. Knowing this information can help you protect the children, and your church’s reputation and finances.
You can learn more about why you should perform Background Checks for Church Volunteers and Employees here!
I recommend a company called Protect My Ministry for church background checks.
If you complete this short form, Protect My Ministry will contact you to provide you with more information and offer you generous discounts!
2. Church Security Equipment:
Invest in church security equipment, like surveillance cameras, and emergency medical supplies (e.g., Automated External Defibrillator).
3. Armed Church Security:
Hire an armed church security guard, especially while you navigate the terrain of establishing your own church security team and drafting church security plans regarding whether or not volunteers can carry firearms.
4. Church Security Team:
Form a church security team, if your church does not already have one. You will want to recruit church members with military, police, and/or medical experience. Each person should complete an application and undergo a background check. The best-case scenario would be to schedule at least one armed church security guard and one medical responder at each service.
Once a church security team is established, you will want equipment for communicating.
5. Church Safety Training:
Once you have established a church security team, you will need to train them (e.g., a Child Safety Training is included with all Background Check Bundles at Protect My Ministry).
For more information about church safety training, you can read How to Train a Church Security Team.
6. Church Security Plan:
Last but certainly not least, you will need to draft a church security plan. Having a church security plan, lets the church security team know what is expected of them, and helps protect the church security team from personal liability.

As Benjamin Franklin said, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” Meaning it is better to prevent a problem from occurring than to deal with it after it has happened.
